Photography Research Centre CVF

Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences

The Photography Research Centre (CVF – Centrum pro výzkum fotografie) was established in 2018 as one of the research centres of the Institute of Art History (IAH) of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. It serves as an interdisciplinary platform for research into history and theory of photography and visual culture. Initially building on the IAH expansive photographic collections and short-term research projects, the CVF seeks to expand the scope of its activities. The Centre’s aim is to collaborate closely with other institutions and individuals and to develop and disseminate the knowledge of photography as a key factor in human lives and cultures.

The IAH collection features tens of thousands of photographs, which are made available through a growing online database.
